Preparing for life after college can feel overwhelming, but at Alma College, students don’t have to face the job search alone. Career Peer Services, led by Hana Rohlk, Associate Director of Career and Personal Development, offers a range of resources designed to help students confidently step into their futures.

“At our core, we help with resume and cover letter development, but we provide much more than just that. We can help with mock interviews, job and internship searches, grad school preparation, and even building a professional network,” said Hana Rohlk.

One of the program’s most popular services is mock interview preparation, where students can practice answering common questions, receive feedback and gain confidence, readying themselves for

“The more times you go through it, the less nervous you’re going to be about it…. it’s easier to tell your story when you’ve practiced multiple times,” said Rohlk.

Rohlk encourages students to start earlier than they think when searching for internships or jobs.

“If you are just interviewing, still apply to other internships or jobs and start earlier than you think, because it gives you time,” said Rohlk.

For fields like accounting or business, where internships may be secured months or even years in advance, this early planning can be essential.

Beyond job search support, Rohlk also teaches a career development course, a two-credit class that guides students through every step of the professional preparation process where the final project is writing application materials and completing a mock interview.

“Students often take it just for the credit, but they leave feeling more prepared to enter the workforce,” said Rohlk.

The support doesn’t end when students graduate. Career Peer Services offers ongoing help for alumni, including resume rebranding, networking guidance, and job search strategy sessions.

Student workers who assist in the office see the impact of these resources firsthand.

“I’ve watched students come in nervous about their resumes and leave with so much more confidence, sometimes, they just need someone to show them they already have great experiences to build on” said Bryce Birchemier (’27), a Career Peer.

“Last year, the Career Peer Center guided me in improving my resume and cover letter, which played a key role in helping me become a Career Peer myself,” said Birchmeier.

Hana has made over 12 curated internship collections on Handshake, including Summer 2026 internships and Michigan-based opportunities, that can help students have a strong starting point to explore positions that match their interests and goals. She shared that she personally shares relatable job and internship opportunities with students that book appointments with her.

Whether it’s landing that first internship, preparing for grad school, or figuring out how to talk about their experiences in interviews, Career Peer Services gives Alma students the tools and confidence to succeed.

This month, the Career Office hosted a “Resume Cafe” and a business student headshot day. Later this week on Oct 24 the office is hosting another headshot day for business students in Clack Art Center from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
