Alma College sophomores, juniors and seniors attended Venture Day which took place this year on September 8 and 9.
Venture Day is set up for Alma College students to learn about the opportunities to explore their area of interest with real world experience.
Alma College awards students up to $2,500 to support personal internships, spring terms, study abroad trips, research projects and the Posey Global (P-Global) Leadership Fellows Program.
“Applied experiences prepare students for success after Alma by creating opportunities to apply learning outside the classroom, explore personal/professiona/academic interests, and and learn something new about themselves and their place in the world,” said Carla Jenson.
When students use their Venture Grant for internship opportunities, they can use their Venture Grant to cover housing fees, groceries, and transportation. The Venture Grant is very versatile. Internships are now a requirement for all Alma College Business Administration students.
“I used my Venture Grant to cover essential expenses like gas, transportation, rent, and groceries throughout my internship. Having that financial support made a huge difference—it allowed me to focus fully on the experience without constantly worrying about how I’d make ends meet,” said Maddie Gettel (‘26).
Applying for the Venture Grant also allows you the opportunity to travel abroad. Students who choose to study away gain valuable world experience while being completely immersed in another country’s culture.
“The most impactful part of my experience was being able to connect with people within the Latin community, but getting the Costa Rican cultural experience,” said Natalia Rodriguez (‘26).
Many Alma College students are required to complete two spring terms. Spring terms are a four credit course taken over four weeks directly after the winter term concludes. There is a variety of courses offered for spring terms.
“Although the course did not directly advance my degree requirements, I appreciated the experience and the chance to explore the global business environment. It broadened my perspective and sparked further interest in international business” said Sophia Somerset (‘26).
One of Alma biggest programs on campus is the nursing program. Juniors in the nursing program travel abroad to Belize to get hands on experience and practice what they have been taught.
“We were able to educate on multiple health concerns including our presentation of the importance of hydration, diabetes, hypertension, nutritional intake and lice,” said Mikaylyn Kenny (‘26).
Another program offered at Alma College is the Posey Global Leadership Fellows Program. This program began as a gift from Alma alumni Lee and Sally Posey (‘56). With this award, you can use it for volunteer work, internships, or research opportunities worldwide.
“The most impactful part of my experience was meeting other volunteers from around the world and growing my Spanish language skills. During my time in Peru, I lived with individuals from five different continents, and we were able to swap stories and learn from one another both on and off the job site,” said Mallory Fenski (‘26).
Applying for the venture is highly recommended by staff, faculty and students. The opportunities are endless, and students can gain impactful real-world experiences.
