Milan recap: U.S. secures 9 golds

The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina concluded on Feb. 22. The US followed Norway in
medal count ending with 27 metals, including nine golds. Norway has led medal count for now
three consecutive Winter Olympic games, taking home 37 medals this year.

On Feb. 8, Breezy Johnson collected the first US medal winning gold in downhill. She joins
downhill icon, Lindsey Vonn, as the only Americans to win this event on this international stage.

On Feb. 10, the Women’s Team Combined Slalom won bronze in Alpine Skiing. Later in the
week, Mikaela Shiffrin won gold in Alpine Skiing Slalom.

Later that day, Alex Hall won silver in the Men’s Slopestyle event. Hall ended with a score of
85.75.

Elizabeth Lemley took home two medals for the US. A bronze in Women’s Dual Moguls and a
Gold in Women’s Moguls. American, Jadlin Kauf followed just behind with a siver in the
Women’s Mogul event on Feb. 11.

On Feb. 17 Mac Forehand won a silver in the Men’s Freeski Big Air event with a score of
193.25, just a few points of Tormod Frostad from Norway who went home with gold. Chloe Kim
won Silver on the Snowboard women’s halfpipe with a best of 88.

Ben Ogden won silver in the Men’s Cross-Country Sprint Classic with a time of 3:.40.61. The
Men’s Team won silver in Cross country skiing sprint with a time of 18:.30.35.

In the Women’s 10km Cross Country freestyle, Jessie Diggins won bronze with the time of
23:38.9.

On the ice, Elana Meyer won gold in the Women’s monobob event with the time of 59.51. The
Curling Mixed Double won Silver after a tough match against Sweden. Ashley Farquaharson
won bronze in the Women’s Singles Luge with a time of 31.582.

In the Team Figure Skating event, the US went home with Gold scoring a total score of 69
points. Madison Chock and Evan Bates secured the silver in a beautiful Ice Dance performance.

In the Women’s Single Figure Skating, Alyssa Lui won gold in a breathtaking performance
scoring a total of 214.91 points.

Men’s Team Speed Skating won silver with a time on 3:43.71. Jordan Stolz collected two golds
one in the Men’s 500-meter speed skating event with a time of 33.77. Then again in the 1000-
meter event with a time of 1:06.28

The US won gold in Women’s Hockey after Morgan Keller scored while behind in overtime.
This was an excited win after a close match up with Canada.

While the Olympics are across the world in Northern Italy, the Scots are watching intently, their
deep-rooted competitive nature seems to never stop.

“Watching the mixed doubles curling semifinal upset of Italy was fantastic. The Americans took
several high-risk shots late in the game that completely shifted the momentum of the match and
ultimately made the difference” said Nick Nemeth, Assistant director for sports information.

The next Winter Olympic Games will be held in the French Alps in 2030. Los Angeles will hold
the next Summer Olympic Games in 2028.
