On January 11th, the 83rd annual Golden Globes took place at the Beverly Hills Hotel, honoring both film and television awards.

As this award show is typically the first of the year, it is known for its more party-like vibe compared to other award shows, such as the Oscars or the Emmys. These awards also serve as an early benchmark for those events, often shaping predictions for the later ceremonies.

With such an impactful event ensuing, many celebrities opted to flaunt their best outfits on the runway. Many designer brands took this opportunity to promote their best pieces.

My personal male favorite look was from Hudson Williams, who served pirate realness, dressed in Giorgio Armani. Zendaya additionally wore a winning outfit, wearing a custom Louis Vuitton dress, featuring many aspects of classic Hollywood with a fresh, modern twist.

“I personally think Snoop Dog was the best dressed. He really pulled together a nice outfit,” said Marie Halligan (‘29).

Furthermore, the movie and television awards featured a mix of stunning surprises and predictable winners.

For example, many fans and viewers, including myself, were not surprised that K-pop Demon Hunters, which quickly became Netflix’s most-watched movie ever, won the ‘Animated Feature Film’ award.

“There’s no way anybody was surprised by that. The song ‘Golden’ from that movie probably plays on the radio every time I’m in the car,” said Lily Sierakowski (‘28).

Or, there was not much shock with the movie Sinners winning both Best Cinematic and Box Office achievements, as the movie received near critical acclaim with 97% rotten tomatoes,

However, a large portion of the viewers shared their shock online about Wicked: For Good not winning any of their nominations, such as Ariana Grande for ‘Best Supporting Actress’.

“To be honest, I think they should’ve gotten at least one Golden Globe. I mean, the fact that the singers sang the songs live throughout both movies is super impressive,” said Hailee Risner (‘28).

Additionally, the well-known rising fame actor Jacob Elordi was seemingly snubbed of his nominations, as I thought he did beyond exceptional in Frankenstein.

“I guess I didn’t expect Jacob Elordi to win in his categories, but I was surprised that he lost to an actress and a limited TV series I’ve never heard of or have seen online,” said Ruby Srock (‘28).

Other award recipients included Paul Thomas Anderson, Ryan Coogler, Josh Safdie, Owen Cooper, and Chloé Zhao.

In terms of the best speech, Timothée Chalamet blew it out of the water, with his speech talking about his upbringing and the meaning of gratitude. He even thanked his parents and girlfriend, Kylie Jenner.

On the goofier side, Snoop Dog’s speech was heavily censored during the live broadcast, as he swore heavily and mentioned the event being too long.

Overall, the 83rd Golden Globe Awards delivered all the key moments that viewers expected from the first award show of the year. As anticipation grows for the Oscars and the Emmys, viewers can discuss a multitude of preliminary awards.
