Scots wrap up fall seasons, gear up for winter

As the fall semester comes to an end, so does fall competition. The Scots have had their fair share of success and struggle throughout the fall season. 

Alma Football secured the MIAA Championship Nov 15 against Adrian College. They punched their ticket into postseason play, after going undefeated in the conference. They will play Nov 22. 

Women’s Volleyball completed their season Nov 7 against Calvin College. The Scots battled hard but lost in three sets. They are 2-6 in the MIAA, and 9-17 overall. After the Olivet v. Saint Mary’s game results, the Scots will not be going into the postseason. 

Men’s Soccer ended their season 0-6-1. Their final competition was on October 29 at the University of Olivet, where the Scots lost 0-1 off a shot late in the game. There were 10 saves over the course of the competition and 12 shots taken. 

Women’s Soccer completed their season Oct 28 at Albion College. They had a tough battle but fell short, losing 3-4. The Scots finished their season 1-6, as Women’s Head Soccer Coach, Sam Sbilski, tucked his first season at the helm under his belt. 

The Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams competed in the MIAA Championship Nov 1. The women’s Team placed 6th and the men’s team placed 8th. The Men’s and Women’s Cross Country team was back in action at the NCAA Religions in Kentucky Nov 15. They placed 23rd scoring 667 points.

Men’s Wrestling began their season Nov 1 at the Ben McMullen Open in Muskegon. The Scots had Four wrestlers place on the podium, including Carter Melonio (‘27) who finished at the top of his weight class with a 4-0 record. The Scots also competed in the Trine Open on Nov 8. Men’s Wrestling first dual is at Olivet Nov 22. 

Women’s Wrestling began their season Nov 1 at the Tiffin Open. Gabriella Allen (‘28) had three wins on the day and dropped her last match claiming 2nd in her weight class. Shai Curtis (‘29) placed 6th in her weight class after experiencing both success and tribulations on the day.

Women’s Wrestling placed 33rd at the Adrian open, scoring 20.5 team points. The Scots will be back in action on Nov 16 at the Albion College Open. 

The Women’s Basketball Team started their season at the JCU Tip-Off Tournament where they faced John Carroll University and Lebanon Valley College. The Scots fell short in both games, losing 56-97 against John Carroll University and 61-66 against Lebanon Valley College. They begin MIAA play at Hope College Nov 18. 

The Men’s Basketball Team started their season on Oct 22 against Oakland University. Their first home game was Nov 12 against North Park College. They fell short after a hard-fought game, 77-82. Their first MIAA game is at Calvin University Jan 7. 

The Men’s and Women’s Swim and Dive Team began their season on Oct 10th against Saginaw Valley University. The men’s and women’s records are currently 2-3 on the season. 

Their first MIAA competition was Nov 15 against Albion College. They walked away with a big win, 159-128. The Scots’ next competition is the Malone Invite on Nov 20 in Canton, Ohio. 

The women’s Bowling Team began their season at the Cougar Classic where they snagged 4th with a total score of 4,292. On Nov 15, the Scots placed 5th at American Heartland. They scored 3,526 points. Their next competition is Nov 22 at the BGSU Falcon Classic.
