Scots Football dominates in the MIAA

Alma College’s Football team has been triumphant in conference play. They are currently 5-0 in the MIAA and 5-2 overall.  

The Scots faced Hanover College on Sept. 20 for their second non-conference competition. They fought hard but fell short after a missed field goal with 28 seconds remaining; they lost 23-24.  

During the Hanover game, Eddie Williams (‘26) broke Alma’s record for the most career rushing yards. He currently has 3,413 Career Rushing Yards with two games still remaining.  

“He made an incredible impact on our team when he was a freshman and has continued to improve.  He is on pace to break his own single season rushing record,” said Jason Couch (‘97), Head Football Couch.  

The Scots began conference play on Sept. 27 against Hope, who is ranked 15 in the nation. The Scots battled hard and came away with an overtime win, 29-26.  

The game ended on a fourth down and goal from the two-yard line. Carter St. John (‘26) connected with Miles Haggart (‘28) for a touchdown securing the win for the Scots.  

Williams had 100 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Zach Poff (‘26) had 70 receiving yards and one touchdown. Preston Marlatt (‘26), Ja’Marte Hogan (‘27) and Mar’sean Massenberg (‘28) all collected seven tackles during the duration of the game. Marlatt also had one tackle for loss.  

For Alma’s Homecoming game, on Oct. 4, the Scot’s had a blowout win, 55-6, against the Calvin Knights.  

St. John collected 320 passing yards. Poff collected 164 receiving yards with three touchdowns. TJ Seiler (‘29) had 119 receiving yards and one touchdown. Haggart had 56 receiving yards and two touchdowns.  

Riley Emilio (‘29) and Zayne Moore (‘27) collected six tackles. Moore also collected one tackle for loss. 

On Oct. 18, the Scots defeated Albion College, 48-27. The Scots did not lay off the gas, collecting three touchdowns in the first quarter. The Brits tried to answer the call, but the Scots pulled away in the third. The Scots lead 48-27 into the fourth and remained the score throughout the duration of the game.  

St. John collected 264 passing yards. Williams rushed 154 yards and scored three touchdowns. Poff, Ryan McNiff (‘26), and Broderick Miller (‘26) all collected one touchdown throughout the competition.  

Jett King (‘26) collected 16 tackles and one and a half tackle for loss. Ryan Kugelman (‘26) collected 11 tackles and Brock Beaudrie (‘26) collected six tackles against the Brits.  

Alma College Football was victorious against The University of Olivet, 53-21, on Oct. 25. The Scots scored early in the first quarter, off a connection between St. John and Miller. Miller went on to score another touchdown late into the second quarter.  

The Scots lead 39-14 at the half. They continued the divide, scoring two more touchdowns in the third leading 53-14 at the end of the third quarter.  

Poff collected a touchdown and 45 receiving yards. Williams collected 183 rushing yards and one touchdown. Brian Morgan (‘26) also scored one touchdown and rushed 101 yards.  

Defensively, Kugelman and Beaudrie both collected five tackles.  

On Nov. 1, the Scots visited the Thunder of Trine for their fifth MIAA competition. The Scots walked away with a win, 42-28.  

St. John had 278 passing yards. Williams had 173 rushing yards and Poff had 69 receiving yards. 

The Scots have two more home games remaining in the MIAA. They play Kalamazoo College on Nov. 8 and Adrian College on Nov. 15. The Scots must win both games to qualify for playoffs.
