The Alma College Scots are five weeks into their fall season and the Women’s teams have been extremely successful on the court and on the course.

The Women’s Cross-Country team has had a lot of success this fall. They placed 8th at the CMU invitational hosted at Shephard High school. They placed 3rd at the Northwood Invite and placed 1st in the Lansing Invitational. They competed on October 4 and placed 4th out of eight teams at the Calvin Knight Invite.

“As a team, we’ve been focusing on packing up and working together during workouts. It’s so much easier to push through tough training days when you know your teammates are right there beside you, going through the same thing. That shared effort makes a huge difference in both motivation and performance,” said Sophie Dech (‘26).

Dech and Chloe Colton (‘27) lead the team with the two fastest times at all three recent invites. The Scots next race is October 18 at Oberlin College.

“Our team just need to not settle. It is very fun watching the team get better but the want to get better needs to stay,” said Colton.

Out the field, the women’s soccer team is currently 7-3. They began their season with non-conference games on August 19 against Jackson College.

“Coming in as a transfer and seeing how the team did in the past there is already so much improvement. As a team we have been focusing on perfecting our passing and first touches, as well as what we call ‘shadow play’ which helps us with ball movement on the field,” said Ava Hoffman (‘28).

The Scots are currently two games in conference play. They faced Calvin University and Hope College where they suffered two tough losses. Their next game is October 8 at Adrian College.

On the court, Alma’s volleyball team started Conference play on September 30 against Saint Mary’s. The Scots swept the Belles in three sets. Maggie Mckale (‘29) lead the team with 11 kills and Grace Steiner (‘28) collected a game high of 14 digs.

On October 4, the Women’s Volleyball Team defeated Adrian in three sets to one. Mallorie Nevadomski (‘29) collected 18 kills on the night and Steiner collected 13 digs. The Scots will continue conference play at Kalamazoo College on October 8.

On the course, the Women’s Golf Team has had a successful season. They placed 7th on day one of the Indiana University East Fall invitational, and placed 6th on day two of the invite. They placed 2nd on the first day of the Irish Hills Invitational and placed 3rd on day two. For the first and second MIAA Jamboree the Scots placed 8th.

“Our Ladies have worked hard and showed tremendous improvement. Our rookies have blended in nicely too. The morale and vibe on the team is terrific,” said head golf coach, JT Cleveland.

In the Scots most recent MIAA Jamboree Katelyn Jacot (‘27) tied for 16th with a score of 81(+9). Following Jacot, Sarah Ream (‘28) scored 86 (+12) landing her tied for 35th overall.

“I focus on becoming more consistent with putting and chipping because that is where you can drop strokes the fastest, but I also focus on trying to be more consistent with my irons. As a team, we focus on making sure we are hitting the right distances with our clubs and working on in-between shots for when a yardage is in the middle,” said Ream.

The third MIAA Jamboree is hosted by Calvin College on October 6.
