Alma College’s annual Homecoming Weekend took place from October 3rd to October 5th, welcoming alumni from around the world to return to Scotland, USA.
The weekend kicked off on Friday with an all-day Art Prize, complemented by a Media, Art, and Design (MAD) Student and Faculty Show. These events both took place on campus, allowing alumni to see fresh student work.
Additionally, Alma’s women’s soccer team competed against Hope College at Scotland Yard on Friday, with Alma scoring one. At the same time, Alma’s volleyball team competed against Adrian’s JV and Varsity, with Alma winning in four sets.
The next day, the 5K Scot Trot began at 9 a.m., with registration taking place at the Heritage Center Parking Lot. Other events occurred in the morning, such as the Homecoming Chapel Service, the release of the book “Community and Purpose: Alma College in the Words of its Alumni”, and the Scots Golf MIAA Jamboree.
Furthermore, Alma’s “Golden Thistle” alumni, also known as graduates of 1974 or prior, were provided opportunities to meet with old friends, with festivities such as brunch and group photos occurring throughout the morning.
The Homecoming Parade began at 11 a.m., where many organizations such as the Kiltie Marching Band, the Alma College Dance Team, the Almanian, and all Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) organizations traveled along Superior and Grat.
“My favorite part of the parade is always watching the dance team… They are so fun and entertaining to watch. Like, how are they always smiling? It’s amazing.” said Hailee Risner (‘28).
Importantly, among these floats were the Alma College 2025 Homecoming Court and Royal Scots finalists: Dahvey Moody (‘26), Killian Glover (‘27), Holly Hall (‘26), and Karri Hamilton (‘26).
“I was super excited to even be nominated for the court. Imagine my surprise when I actually made it on the court! I am so excited and thankful for the opportunity,” said Glover.
“At the end of the day, the day is going to end, so just don’t stress and stay smooth!” said Moody.
Following the parade, the Homecoming football game against Calvin began at 2 p.m. on Balke Field, with Alma fans lining the bleachers to support the Scots. An Alumni, Family, and Friends Tent was provided for all Scots to enjoy refreshments and snacks. The Scots won 55-6 against the Knights, giving them a 2-0 record in the MIAA.
Wrapping up the events on Saturday was the performance by Alma College’s choir, which took place at 7 p.m.within the Heritage Presbyterian Hall.
“Everyone in the choir has been working so hard since the beginning of the semester and what we have been able to accomplish is amazing… I am so excited to see the final product at the concert,” said Logan Mollitor (‘29).
Sunday brought a quieter close to the weekend’s festivities, allowing alumni and families time to reflect and enjoy Alma’s campus at their own pace.
“It was so endearing to see all of the alumni walk around the campus the next day. It makes me think that one day, I’ll be in their shoes, and I will be so happy to say I went to Alma College,” said Lillian Sierakowski (‘28).
Homecoming 2025 was a celebration of community, tradition, and Scot pride. From exciting games and art displays to emotional reunions and amazing performances, the weekend was a reminder that Alma College isn’t just a campus, but that it’s also a place people carry with them for life.
