Delta Gamma Tau has built a powerful reputation at Alma College, and I think it deserves to be called the best organization on campus. From the moment I first arrived here, I saw how much of an impact DGT has on both its members and the surrounding community.
What sets it apart is that it is a local fraternity, it is more culturally diverse than other fraternities, and it is deeply involved in its philanthropy. Those three qualities make it not just a fraternity but an organization that symbolizes support, service, and inclusivity.
Philanthropy is a major part of what makes DGT special. The fraternity’s commitment to giving back shows that it is about more than just its members, it is about serving the community. DGT has worked with organizations such as His Place, Footprints Ministries, and Hope House. These partnerships prove that the fraternity’s focus is not only on building its own identity but also on making Alma a better place for everyone.
“With DGT being a local fraternity, the impact that the organization makes right here in Alma is amazing with philanthropies it has,” said Harley Dowell (`28). That local independence gives DGT the freedom to create its own legacy and focus entirely on making a difference right here atAlma, allowing the fraternity to stay closely tied to the campus community and to remain original in its goals and actions.
“When you walk into the main fraternity room, where their meetings are held, there are several flags of nations representing their dedication to a multicultural experience of brotherhood. For years, DGT has welcomed gentlemen from different cultural backgrounds, while continuing to celebrate their local history of leadership and dedication to service,” said Dr. Jonathan Glenn, Director of Diversity and Inclusion.
DGT is unique because it brings together people from many diverse cultural and social backgrounds. That kind of variety is not found in typical fraternities these days, but in DGT, it is embraced. This cultural diversity not only strengthens the brotherhood but also makes it more welcoming. This fraternity is proof that you don’t need to fit to belong, you just need to be committed to respect, brotherhood, and service.
“Brotherhood is seen as an opportunity to learn from the lived experiences of other Alma College men, and every year, their brotherhood continues to grow with each story, each experience, and each brother. Inclusion is not just a word for DGT, it is an action!” said Glenn.
It’s not just about belonging to a group, it is about being part of something that supports you, gives back, and includes everyone. That kind of environment makes people stronger both inside and outside the classroom.
DGT is different because it manages to be both welcoming and ambitious. It builds leaders, creates opportunities for growth and constantly reminds its members to focus on service and community. From diversity to philanthropy, from local pride to brotherhood, I think DGT checks every box that makes an organization worth being proud of.
That is why, in my opinion, DGT is not just the best fraternity on Alma’s campus, but it is the best organization as well. It provides a home, a purpose, and a vision that every student can admire.
