Student Congress (StuCo) held its annual election on Nov. 11 to decide its 2025 Executive Committee. The election survey was open to students from Nov. 12 to Nov. 17.

The candidates for president were Khalil Allah Chalouati (‘26) and Jake Lasceski (‘26). Jake Lasceski was the candidate selected by the student body to be the new StuCo president.

“During my term, I want to focus on safety measures and limiting hate. Emergencies of all kinds have become far too common for colleges. It is important that we put preventative measures in place for students to be safe and thrive here,” said Lasceski.

“Student Congress is an opportunity for the student voice to be heard. Ultimately, the elected members’ jobs are to be the link between the students and administration. We have needs and I want to push our agenda forward,” said Lasceski.

The candidates for vice president were Filippos Mourkis (‘26) and Yaw Poku (‘26). Yaw Poku was the candidate selected by the student body to be the new StuCo vice president.

“I wanted the vice president position because I wanted to make a difference on campus. I felt as though being vice president of Student Congress, I am able to make a difference through working with the numerous organizations on campus,” said Poku.

“Students Congress means a general body that speaks up for the voiceless. Bringing issues to the forefront of the College’s priorities. On a deeper level it’s the friendships you make along the way when you attend Student Congress,” said Poku.

The candidates for secretary were Nayonikaa Singhaal (‘27)Mallory Fenskie (‘26) and Julia Weihs (‘26). Mallory Fenskie was the candidate selected by the student body.

“I wanted this position because it is incredibly important that the entire student body is informed of the work of the student congress, and the secretary plays a large role in communication with the campus community to achieve this I feel I am skilled at organization and communication,” said Fenskie.

“Student Congress is a really incredible opportunity for all students to come together and learn about the amazing work being done by our peers. There really is a niche for everyone on Alma’s campus, and student congress helps to make all that possible,” said Fenskie.

Chloe Anderson (‘26) was the only student to run for treasurer automatically making her treasurer.

“I wanted to be StuCo treasurer because I have always had a passion for finance and budgets and making the process accessible and inclusive for all. I love that StuCo brings such strong leaders together and wanted to play a part in supporting students to the best of my ability,” said Anderson.

“In my position, I want to advocate for student’s and organization’s financial needs… I think it is important to analyze how to best communicate and handle things like the information given to organizations treasurers and the budget allocation process,” said Anderson.

Following the Nov. 11 candidate speeches from each individual running for a position, the entire Alma College student body voted in favor of each of the previously mentioned selected candidates.

The new STUCO Executive Committee will officially take their positions in January with the commencement of the winter semester.
