Senior line-ups for winter sports

As the weather shifts on the beautiful campus of Alma College, the winter sports season is just around the corner, and for seniors, this means their last. 

Alma College Men’s Basketball, led by head coach Mike Fitzpatrick in his third season with the Scots, will begin their campaign on the road Nov. 9 in Springfield, Ohio to face Wittenberg University. 

The first home game will be Nov. 10 against Grinnell College in a projected shootout with the final score from last year’s matchup ending in a 116-102 Alma victory. The team will compete in the Lauren Hill Tip-Off Classic on Nov. 23 and 24 in Cincinnati, Ohio and will travel to Pennsylvania and Iowa during winter break.        

The Scots will look to rebuild their starting lineup as none of the prior year’s regular starters remain on the team. Donovan Collins (‘27) and Xavier Glenn Jr. (Grad. Student) lead returners in points scored (184 and 111) and minutes played (466 and 325). Seniors include Seth Bradford (‘25)Paul Gadde (‘25)Aidan Judsen (‘25), and Glenn Jr.

Alma College Women’s Basketball, led by Head Coach Sami Stormont in her sixth season with the Scots, will open their schedule in University Heights, Ohio on Nov. 8 at the JCU Tip-Off Tournament. Their first home game will be Nov. 16 against Heidelberg University. 

The team will also compete in the Lauren Hill Classic on Nov. 22 and 23 and will travel to Berea, Ohio during winter break for the Baldwin Wallace Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29 and 30. 

Returning regular starters for Alma include Breckyn Werner (‘26)Brooke LeRoux (‘25), and Molly Deurloo (‘27). The trio was in the team’s top five last year in points scored with 149, 247, and 184, respectively. Seniors include LeRoux, Reagan Thorr (‘25), and Kerri Miller (‘25).

Alma College Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving, led by Head Coach Chris Hamstra in his second season with the Scots, began the 2024-25 season on Oct. 5 in Saginaw, Michigan against Saginaw Valley State University. Since then, the teams have competed in the MIAA Relays on Oct. 18 and against Hope College on Oct. 25.

Both teams are currently 0-2. Their next meet will be on Nov. 9 in Mishawaka, Indiana, against Bethel University (Ind.) and Aquinas College (Mich.). The first home meet will be Jan. 18 against Manchester University. 

Seniors on the men’s team include Ryan Gray (‘25) and Seth Stahl (‘25). Seniors on the women’s team include Kylie Demarets (‘25)Emma Figlewicz (‘25)Madilynn Mendez (‘25), and Megan Neeley (‘25).

Alma College Men’s Wrestling, led by Head Coach Jared Groeneveld in his second season with the Scots, will open on Nov. 2 in Muskegon, Michigan for the Ben McMullen Open. For winter break, the men’s team will head to Ada, Ohio on Dec. 7 for the ONU Invite and Sandusky, Ohio on Dec. 14 for Kalahari Duals. 

The first home match of the season will be held on Jan. 16 against Adrian College. Seniors include Calvin Huggler (‘25)Dominic Megdanoff (‘25)Doug Morris (‘25), and Brody Miskimon (5th yr.).

Alma College Women’s Wrestling, led by Head Coach Katlyn Pizzo in her third season with the Scots, will open on Nov. 2 in Tiffin, Ohio for the Tiffin University Open. The first home competition will be on Nov. 8 against Northern Michigan University and Davenport University. For winter break, the women’s team will head to Naperville, Illinois on Dec. 15 for the North Central Open. The team’s senior is Jailyn Gonzales (’25).
