Alma College had a big weekend with their annual celebration of Homecoming. The weekend kicked off with the parade on Sep. 28th and was followed by the Football game where the Scots did unfortunately lose 34 to 13 to Hope College, but they fought hard through the game.

Football player Ike Koscielski (’26) said, “I think we showed grit in the second half as we tried to fight back while we were down. When everyone gets in rhythm good things happen for us. We did fall short of our goal, but we will be stronger for it.”

On Friday, Alma College Athletics hosted the Alma College Hall of Fame. Both the 1983 Women’s Field Hockey team and the 2003 Volleyball Team, as well as seven other individual former athletes.

The weekend of festivities continued through Saturday and Sunday with plenty of activities for current students and alumni.

Not only did Alma College celebrate with a parade and football game, but the college welcomed home four previous classes of Scots: the Classes of 1964, 1974, 1999, and 2014. Each one had a reunion lunch hosted by the college, giving the alumnus a chance to reconnect with individuals that they might not have seen since they were students here.

Saturday morning, the college also hosted the Scot Trot, which is a 5k around Alma. 152 students, residents, alumni and family participated.

The parade celebrated the organizations and teams of campus, such as the Fraternities and Sororities, the Alma College Dance Team, the Spirit Squad and the Cheer Team. The parade was lead by Pat and Maurie Luetkemeier, two alumni who have been heavily involved in the campus culture and community.

Jayden Jones (’27) shared her thoughts of being in the parade, “My favorite part was waving at everyone watching and seeing everyone’s smiles!”

Each Fraternity and Sorority on campus also hosted their own tailgates and welcomed back alumnus from their respective organizations, giving them a chance to reminisce on their times at Alma College. This offers alumni a chance to meet present members and learn new traditions as well as celebrate old ones.

“Homecoming is such a great experience as a student because we get to celebrate the larger Alma College community,” said Shannon McGlynn (’25)

Homecoming is a chance for the Scots of the past and present to come together and celebrate their good times and memories made. It gives everyone a chance to come together and reflect on their times at Alma.

Saturday night included the distinguished alumni awards and choir concert. Featured at the alumni awards were Gary Peters (’80), Hugh Brenneman (’67), Dean Havelka (’79), and Katie Meloche (’13). Following the awards, the Alma College choir concert occurred in the Heritage Center.

Sunday brought worship services for Alumni and students, as well as a ring ceremony for the Cheer and Stunt teams in celebration of both teams receiving national titles in their respective sports.

In culmination, the events of the weekend brought home alumni from all over the nation to celebrate their time at Alma College, while also giving them a chance to share their memories with Scots of the past and the present.
